Happy June 1!
No idea what that means, spake I, Kimber the Magnificent. But Mom is crowing about “Hoo-ray for June!” So “June” must be a good thing, right? Especially if “June” comes in Filet Mignon, medium-well, wrapped in bacon and all juicy and yummy and…
Wait. Where was I?
Oh yeah. June. And reading.
Well. Today you’re in for a treat, Cupcake. Cuz today I’m gonna give you a rundown on how this June reading thing works in my house. Like this:
📚 The Paw-fect Bedtime Ritual
I don’t know what kind of magic is inside these paper squares. But it seems to work. Cuz Her Royal Momness opens one up every day and starts whispering sweet, monotone nonsense to me. Apparently, these are called “books.”
Sometimes Mom tries to read out loud about stuff that happened long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away. Legal thrillers. High-octane adventure. Mountain climbing. The Serengeti. Bolivia. The Ming Dynasty. Siberia. Henry VII. Notre Dame. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! (Well, okay. Maybe not bears. But you get the idea, Cookie?) Lots of other stuff.
And now I’m gonna let ya in a little secret: I really don’t care about where these book thingies take me and Mom. I just like the lap time. (Don’t tell Mom, okay? Besides. I think she already suspects.)
🛋️ Kimber’s Guide to Book Interruptions
Here’s how I participate in our June reading:
- The Page Smasher: When things get tense in chapter eight, I shove my wet nose onto the page, just in time to rescue Mom from The Great Freak-out.
- The Bookmark: When I drape my entire 65-pound body across the middle of the book so Mom doesn’t lose her place. Well, okay. She can’t really go any place. Or turn another page. But let’s not get picky here, okay?
- The Plot Twist: If Mom tries to turn the page too fast, I let out a big ‘ole sigh that can be heard in the next zip code. I’ve trained Mom to respond with a tummy rub and a treat. She’s gotten pretty good at it. Even for Mom.
🌳 Why June is the Ultimate Reading Month
June is the best time for outdoor reading! Sun. Summer. Snoozes. Good books. What’s not to love?
So, grab your best June books. Plant yourself in a nice patch of sun with a sweet furry face. Dive into a new month and some new reads. Bonus points if you share your ham sandwich. Or bacon-wrapped filet mignon.
Happy June and Happy Reading!
TTFN,
Kimber
