 Psssst! Hey buddy and buddy-ette.

Yeah. You. Can ya spare a cake the size of New York? Cuz today’s Mom’s birthday. And that’s how big the cake’s gotta be in order to accommodate all them thar candle thingies.

I was gonna tell ya how old Her Momness is today. But let’s just say she was an eye witness to the parting of the Red Sea and leave it at that, okay?

Anywho. In honor of this auspicious occasion, Mom came up with a list of 40 Things I’ve Learned Since the Earth’s Crust Cooled. We’re calling it The Birthday List. The short version. In no particular order. It goes like this:

The ‘Birthday List” or – 40+ Things I’ve Learned Since the Earth’s Crust Cooled:

I’m waaaaay too young to be as old as Kimber thinks I am.
Anything is possible in a contingent universe. Except squeezing toothpaste back into the tube.
I still have a lot of growing up to do. I realized that the other day inside my blanket fort.
Old age and treachery trump youth and inexperience every time.
Shared joy is double joy; shared sorrow is half a sorrow.
Preserving the relationship is more important than winning the argument.
Buy a plunger before you need one.

I think we’re right… Um, no. Maybe we’re… Uh.. well…?


A good book is like a good friend. It will stay with you the rest of your life.
⭐Life is better with a dog.
Toxic people are like battery acid. They corrode relationships. Disconnect and move on.
It’s okay to ask for help.
It’s okay to say, “I don’t know” when you don’t.
⭐ ‘There is no pit so deep that He is not deeper still.’
A good man is hard to find. Especially since I have one of the last.
Everything’s better with raspberry white chocolate cheesecake + double hot fudge sauce.
If you swim in the ocean, bring a friend. It’ll reduce your chances of being eaten by a shark by 50%.
A key to a successful marriage? Three little words: “I was wrong.”
Never have more children than you have car windows.
Old friends are some of the best friends.
Charles Schultz was a genius.


Only two things have eternal value: People and God’s Word. Prioritize accordingly.
Put EAT CHOCOLATE at the top of your daily To Do list. That way you’ll always get at least one thing done every day.
Fear is a liar.
‘Take only pictures, leave only footprints’ should be the 11th Commandment.
Find something to thank/praise your spouse for every day. Even if you have to make it up. Maybe esp. if you have to make it up.
When the first words out of your son’s mouth are, “Mom, don’t panic but…,” the first thing you do is…?
Forgive others, not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve peace.
Poking at a campfire with a stick is one of life’s greatest satisfactions.
If someone gossips TO you, you can bet they gossip ABOUT you.
Sunscreen is your friend.

Her Momness. About a year old. No. Really.


There’s no place like home. But a cozy cabin perched on a remote mountaintop sounds pretty good sometimes.
Never confuse Cinnamon with Chili Powder. Even if they ARE right next to each other on the spice rack.
Two movies I cannot watch again: Where the Red Fern Grows (original) and Marley and Me. Don’t make me explain this.

He still moves stones.

You can never see too many wildflowers. Or waterfalls. Or soaring evergreens. Or mountains majesty. Or…
⭐The chance of the bread falling with the buttered side down is directly proportional to the cost of the carpet.
A good veterinarian is worth their weight in gold. Or doggie treats. 
⭐No one’s beyond Your love.
Life’s uncertain. Eat dessert first!
The good china isn’t just for company. Use it for family too.
Time is like a penny. You can spend it anyway you want, but you can only spend it once. Invest wisely.
S L O W  D O W N. It won’t hurt. Promise.
Nobody loves me like You love me.


Always be yourself. If you can’t be yourself, be a pirate!

A little Mozart in the morning goes a long way.

Aging is weird. Just about the time your skin clears up, your brain starts getting fuzzy.
Life is short. Hug your loved ones while you can.
Praise is the cleansing element that flushes away the trash of worry and anxiety.

Great is Thy faithfulness.

    Happy Birthday to you! And thanks for the words of wisdom. Today, the one the speaks to me the most clearly is ‘Praise is the cleansing element..’

    My pawed daughter Bonnie would add ‘All squirrels are evil, but possibly tasty.’
