Kimber: Hark! Doth I hear the “W” word? As in, “Walk”?
Her Royal Momness doesn’t think I know how to spell. Or what “Ready for a w-a-l-k” means. Silly Mom. Especially when a book on one of our favorite subjects just came out. And you really, really oughtta read it. Cuz it’s really, really good. No really, really (that’s not a typo). Pinky paw-swear. Here’s why:
If the mere notion of walking makes you break out in hives, fear not! Cuz Go Walking isn’t scary. Or demanding. Or guilt-ify-ing. It’s not one of those slick, over-produced “as seen on TV” infomercial-type deals. It’s not one of those medical journal thingies that’s written in Doctorese so’s the average reader needs a magic decoder ring to figure it out (and me without my Wheaties.) Nor is Go Walking a lot of pie in the sky, bye and bye blackboard theory. Nopers. It’s down to earth, paws on the ground practical.
In Go Walking you’ll find out how:
- To get out there because it’s fun
- To feel that you’re doing your best for your happiness, health and longer life
- To get the most out of your walking and turn it into a habit that you never want to give up
- Walking cheers you up, reduces your stress and makes you feel great
- You can squeeze so much fun out of your walks, each and every day.
Lots more!
Speaking of which, as author Rosemary Bointon says, if walking seems “boring” to you, the solution is pretty simple: Walk with ME, Kimmi the Walking Queen! Oh, wait. I’m already spoken for. Solution coming right up, take two:
Take Two
If walking seems boring, then make it fun! And our buddy Rosemary offers about eight million cool ideas to do so and get out and walk! (Well, maybe only seven mil. But who’s counting?) So ‘cmon, Cupcake. Grab that leash. Lace up them shoes. And let’s Go Walking for a healthier, happier you in this eminently readable and highly enjoyable little book. With extra bonus points from Yours Truly.
And who can resist that?
Here’s more again:
Meditation walks! Mindfulness walks! Colourful walks! Creative walks! Listening walks! Get filet mignon for your sweet furry face walks! What? Also Dopamine! Frozen peas! Merino wool! The Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion Scale. (Apparently it’s a thing. Who knew?)
Also four ways to motivate yourself into making your walking into a habit. (This section is really cool. In case you’re wondering, Toots. And even if you’re not.) And extensive Endnotes. Tons of science and research supports the contents. Like the section on Walking for Longer Health Span and Longevity: the Science. Also lots and lots of reminders to check with Dr. Dan before starting any new exercise or walking program. Kimber: Oh, wait. Dr. Dan is my doc. You might want to check with your hooman doc. Just sayin’. Although I bet your hooman doc doesn’t give really tasty treats like Dr. Dan does!
This book also has some memorable lines. Like under the Rhythm Walks for Your Brain section: “We’ve got rhythm. Who could ask for anything more?” Doo-whop, doo-whop, doo-whop. (Wait. Is that Andy Rooney and Judy Garland?)
Writing & Structure
Besides being well-organized and easy to read, Go Walking also includes the author telling her story – and her nine million excuses – for not walking. Even when knowing how good walking is for her. And how hard it is to get and stay motivated. So if that’s you, not to fret. There’s an honesty and an authenticity in these pages that’s refreshing. Relatable. And it doesn’t pile on the guilt. Even if you’re a coach potato. Or a couch potato. So the book doesn’t feel like a lecture or a sermon, but a conversation.
We love that.

Well & Well
Go Walking is well-written and well-organized. Chapters are bite-sized and easy to digest. The writing is fluid, dynamic and easy to understand (Kimber: Even Mom gets it. Don’t tell her I said that, okay?)
Fact is, anyone can pick up this book and enjoy it. That includes anyone who knows they should get more exercise but doesn’t know how, when, or where to start. If that’s you, Cream Puff, don’t worry. Packed with helpful tips and tidbits about the what, when, where, why and how of walking, this little book takes you through the basics in practical, down to earth lingo. So you can get started and keep going.
The Bee’s Knees
Fascinating and informative, Go Walking is engaging and entertaining. Inspirational. Motivational. And just plain fun. It’s the bee’s knees. (You’ll get that if you’re older than dirt. Hi, Mom.)
Here We Come…
Kimber: Everybody off the sidewalks! Cuz Mom’s lacing up her shoes and grabbing the leash. So watch out, world. Cuz here we come, Walkin’ down the street…
Bonus. bonus points: The author actually took the time to thoroughly read and abide by our Submission Guidelines. You wouldn’t believe how many peeps don’t. So when someone gets it right, we love that. Oh yeah.
Our Rating: 4.5
