Children’s Literature has long been a favorite genre. So we’re highlighting Books With Newbery Medals on the Cover.
100th Anniversary!
Besides. The first Newbery Medal was awarded in 1922. So This year, 2022, marks the award’s 100th anniversary.
What is a Newbery Medal, aka: a Newbery Award? Since 1922, the Newberry medal has been awarded annually by the American Library Association for “The most distinguished contribution to American literature for children”.” The Newbery Medal is the oldest and most prestigious children’s book award given in the United States. It was really hard to narrow down our list to just a handful of awardees. But here, in no particular order, are some of our favorites. How many of these have you read?

As soon as I saw the title of your post, I thought “It’s going to be the Newbery!” I’m glad I was right. I grew up knowing that medal meant a terrific book was inside the covers… not that I loved them all, but I could tell they were good even when they didn’t appeal to me personally. Of the books you posted here, I’ve read about half, and I have a few more on my list to read eventually.

Thanks for commenting! Newbery award winners of some of my all-time favorites, especially the *older* (ahem!) winners. I re-read Marguerite Henry’s “King of the Wind” again last summer – for the third or fourth time. Still as fresh and absorbing and delightful as it was the first time I read it – in the third grade. Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. 🙂 Happy TTT!

What a great topic! There are some old favorites here, but seeing a Marguerite Henry book especially brings me back to my horse-obsessed youth!

I’ve not read any Newberry Medal books, but then I grew up in the UK, so I largely read children’s books by UK authors, I only really started reading more US authors when I became a teenager.
